Trails
Trails: Dicey's Mill Trail, Walden Trail, East Loop
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, March 3, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ferncroft Road is ice covered. I had no difficulty with studded snow tires and AWD. Lot is plowed. Four vehicles when I arrived and four other vehicles when I departed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of the tributary of the Wonalancet River was easy on snow covered rocks or via a snow/ice bridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. I picked up many small branches in the trail. There are a couple branches from a downed tree that extended in to the Dicey's Mill Trail not too far from the Wilderness Boundary. A short walk around bypasses the branches (small saw will take of the branches).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.

Comments
Comments: I saw DEL's comment. I was the silent snowshoe hiker. Sorry for being so quiet but I had been hiking over a path of boot holes by the time I encountered you and another Microspiker. Please take DEL's advise to use snowshoes until the track is reported as solid.

On the descent the Dicey's Mill Trail had been mostly smoothed out. It appeared there may have been another snowshoe hiker or two. Unfortunately four other hikers without snowshoes arrived in the parking area after my return so I don't know if the surface held up.

The Walden Trail from the summit to the East Loop Trail is now broken out. This section of trail is steep in some stretches so you may want to ascend via this route and descend on Dicey's Mill trail in order to loop the summit of Mt Passaconaway. The East Loop Trail is now broken out.

The trail to the north outlook has not been recently used. The trail out to the Kancamagus showed no evidence of recent use.

Limited views today due to the clouds.
