Beautiful day for the Presidentials. Basically no wind and it was still almost 30F on the summit.
Going up the fresh snow from yesterday had filled in the trough and only a barebooter was in front of us. So we packed it down. Around 5000 ft we bailed and switched to crampons as the snowshoe were just too bulky and the frozen crust was slippery. Do yourself a favor and just switch at treeline. Crampons were worn all the way to the summit and then back to treeline.
The trail on Gulfside was hard to find at times as everything is white and the frozen cairns seem to blend in. It was easier to follow on the way back.
Track was fully formed in the trees on Jewell on the way down but still soft enough that I would recommend staying in snowshoes.
