This is a pretty nice NH 100 Highest hike. After 19 water bars on the road/trail we missed the low arrow pointing to the left. We ended up walking for an additional hour or more following logging roads all over the place.
On our way back we spotted the arrow!, followed it and stayed on the roads, even when the next arrow sent us into the woods. Crossed the brook then stayed on the main road, taking a right at the height of the land and coming out in a huge field with Mt Sable right on our left and less than a mile bushwack to go.
It was an unusual combination of hardwood, ferns, blackberry bushes and hobble bushes most of the way. A quarter of a mile from the top we found and followed the old Sable Mt. Trail which took us to the small canaster.
We didn't have to go through any spruce today!! |
