| Comments: |
Spikes car to well onto the ridge. Some deep drifts on ridge. Switched to snowshoes to summit and back to Lincoln Brook. Aside from ridge, the trail was hard and made for a relatively easy journey for Owlshead. Saw quite a few hikers. Most had snowshoes attached to packs. The trail held up well throughout the day even as temperatures moderated a bit. 17 degrees at start, mid to high 20's on return. Brutus showed signs of buttsledding. Kicked toe holds for quite a ways even past the slide boulder. Black Pond Bushwack took a higher and better track than in January. Less mindless meandering. Brutal Brutus turned left early and was very similar to January. Staying on trail on Brutus and to summit was a bit of chore due to windblown snow and drifting. It was relatively easy to determine being off trail. |
