Comments
Comments: I wore snowshoes from Ammo lot all the way to the top of Monroe, although I would have changed over to crampons at LOTC had the windchill not been so brutal, especially for fine motor tasks. Other than patches of thick ice crust, the trail is pretty well tramped out with an obvious trough although it will be unconsolidated for some time given the mixed traction being used. I didn’t see anyone on the way up, but saw two skiers and three hikers on my way down. The three hikers were all in crampons and seemed to be doing fine without the flotation. Beautiful day above treeline, albeit shortened because of the winds.
