Comments
Comments: Skied and snowshoed to Zealand Pond area on Tuesday, snowshoed up to and back from Zealand Mountain on Wednesday, snowshoed and skied out Zealand Trail and Zealand Road today (Thursday). A little snowing and drifting on all three days. Broke trail in a few inches of new and drifted snow almost to Zealand Mountain on Wednesday, meeting 3 Bonds-Zealand traversers shortly before the summit. A Zealand-Bonds traverser passed by soon thereafter; later, I passed two hikers doing an out-and-back trip to Zealand Mountain. As noted by another poster, the tracked route near the top of Zeacliff wanders a little bit. Given the weather, trail conditions have been changeable. But the Zealand Trail saw at least one set of snowshoes today, and the Zealand Road at least one set of skis. The Road was okay but not always great skiing, with a bit of dust-over-crust, given the thaw and refreeze, plus a little bit of new, wind-drifted snow. (No monorail, but there used to be a logging railroad in Zealand Valley....)
