Comments
Comments: Solid snowshoe track up to Webster Cliff Trail with some loose snow on surface. Snowshoes are the recommended footwear. The established track up Mt Pierce diverts from official trail but it leads to the summit. The Webster Cliff Trail was post holed when I checked out the stretch near Mt Pierce summit. Perhaps the path was improved later in the day as I saw a snowshoe track on the Mizpah Cut-Off in the PM that was not the case in the AM. Saw hikers on the Crawford path that I had met on Kearsarge North in late October.
The Crawford Path to Mt Eisenhower was not recently broken out. As I started out toward Mt Eisenhower I was joined by Mel who needed the peak for February. There were no visible cairns nor a trail corridor evident on the Crawford Path just north of Mt Pierce. We explored a route to the east that turned out to be off trail with spruce traps (don't venture on the false trails to the east just below the jct with Webster Cliff Trail). We discovered the true trail and continued unerringly to the junction with the Eisenhower Loop Trail. There was a faint trace of an earlier snowshoe track at times, a trail corridor in the scrub at other times, and occasionally visible snow covered cairns in other spots. The Crawford Path was not broken out north of the south junction with the Eisenhower Loop. Nice views of Monroe, Jefferson, and other peaks from the summit of Mt Eisenhower. Mt Washington was hidden in clouds. On the return we met another hiker heading to Mt Eisenhower.
