There is a few inches of heavy wet snow on the mountains. The stage road and the blueberry pasture trail are used by snowmobiles. They are very packed down and can be barebooted. I had a really fun time hiking up the west precipice trail. There was a big rock scramble covered in snow that climbs past a frozen waterfall. I went up this part in microspikes, and left a few post holes (sorry). I put my snowshoes on after that, and wore them for the rest of the day. There were a few difficult rock scrambles on the upper part of the west precipice trail that I had trouble climbing up. I ended up bushwacking around them (youll see my footprints). I attempted the north straightback link trail, but I came to a spot where I could not determine where the trail was. I turned back at this point. The previous hiker had the same problem. The footprints fork into two directions, both leading to a dead end. The green blazes on this trail are very faded and difficult to follow. I didnt do the anna goat trail, but I noticed one set of footprints (bareboots) going up that way. There were some creepy scarecrows on the side of the old stage road towards the blueberry pasture trail. |
