| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small lot that fits about 6 cars right now. We parked at a small pull-off 2/10 of a mile from the trailhead and did not get a ticket. There is a sign at the trailhead that says no parking along the road is strictly enforced. |

I put snowshoes on at the beginning and left them on due to inertia. Most people had spikes, 2 had trail crampons. From what I saw, if you step off the track you posthole. I took the snowshoes off at the Ranger trail as the track is no longer wide enough to accommodate 2 snowshoes side by side and continued with just bare boots, no postholing. Nice hike, some long stretches of flat walking. I went up to the top of the fire tower for a moment--very cold and windy--and retreated quickly. A lower elevation hike was a good choice for today after hearing about the frigid temps and winds on the 4,000 footers. I punched a few holes in the trail when descending to get some traction after many sledders had gone by. Sledders were very polite to stop and walk by us--thank you! I broke a hiking pole mid trip otherwise I would have used that. Safety first. |
