Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Residential stretch of York Pond Road (northern section) is salted/sanded. The York Pond Road in WMNF is hard packed snow that was easy to drive on. Gate is behind snow bank. York Pond and Unknown Pond trailhead parking lots are both plowed. Lots of vehicles today. Some were parked at the end on York Pond Road since the York Pond lot was full.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Stride/Jump from bank to bank on a series of small drainage flows. The largest brook crossing on the old log road section of Bunnell Notch Trail has a snow/ice bridge

Comments
Comments: Great snowshoe track the entire distance. Fairly solid base with a thin layer of loose snow on top. Ideal for snowshoes. Boot traffic had minimal impact on the surface except for 12"+ post holes at the margins of the snowshoe track.
Sign for Bunnell Rock viewpoint is hidden by a snow laden evergreen bough although well broken out side path is quite evident.
The best viewpoints are Bunnell Rock towards Terrace Mtn and Waumbek and the clearing above cabin looking east to the Mahoosuc Range.
Summit marked by sign. Path broken out to high point off the Kilkenny Ridge Trail.
Kilkenny Trail to Terrace Mountain is not broken out. York Pond Trail beyond the junction with Bunnell Notch Trail has not been used recently as the snowshoe trench is filled in with snow. Unknown Pond Trail broken out at trailhead. Kilkenny Ridge Trail leading off summit to the north was broken out. I don't know if the entire Cabot-Bulge-Horns-Unknown Pond circuit is broken out.
Lots of hikers out today. Probably 20 to 30 hikers with amix of snowshoers and spikers.
