Snowshoes for the duration of this hike, although crampons would have been a good choice above tree line. Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail is in good shape. Above tree line was a mix due to the wind, some fresh powder, some drifting, but mostly hard frozen which made for easy walking.
Initially intended to try for Jefferson as well, but bailed. Early morning was bitter cold and windy on Monroe, whiteout conditions ascending Washington slowed things down. Got lucky at the summit with the clouds clearing and excellent views, but decided to call it and follow the railroad tracks down. |
