An out-and-back to Imp Face via the northern leg of Imp Trail, snowshoes round-trip.
The trail was packed, but also choppy and postholed in places. Snowshoes seemed like the best option for today. The sidehill sections in the upper half were even more awkward today due to the conditions, where it appeared some folks had slipped off the packed trail, taking some of the snowpack with them. One may be able to get by with just spikes, but stepping off trail even just a little bit is gonna make you sink deep. On the descent, the snow had also started to soften from the sun.
From the main ledges, I continued up the trail and did a short but scratchy bushwhack to the high point (tiny clearing) of the knob where Imp Face is located. Off-trail snow was mostly supportive with careful stepping, but I did find one knee-deep spruce trap.
I considered going around the loop, but beyond the ledges it looked less-traveled. A very quiet day here today, only saw one other snowshoe hiker. |
