| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the AMC Highland Hilton. ;-) Longer walk, but safer to unload/load in contrast to roadside parking. Just look out for the speedsters exiting - they take no prisoners. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Got nothing. Everything's frozen! Just wait until the Spring snow melt ... ...now that's something to see, even on this trail. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No blowdowns. Trail is generally good shape.
Thanks to the trail maintainer -- great job! |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw only 1 canine. Both Dog and owner were exceedingly polite and well-mannered. |
|
| Bugs: |
Thankfully none! Don't want to even think about what a flying winter bug would look like. Big, furry and hungry. Ugh. ;-) |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Got nothing. |

Great day to be on the mountain. While it was probably around -10 deg F and wind 25-35 mph with higher gusts (maybe?) at the summit, the skies were sunny &largely bright blue with some racing clouds. Hard to not like that, given how many cloudly winter hikes I've been on. The sun/blue skies didn't consistently last - we saw clouds half way down, and then some sun and blue again.
This was our plan B - Plan A was Pierce/Eisenhower, which given the wind/cold and potential for blowing snow on the leg between Pierce & Ike fell out of favor.
To the ladies who my hiking buddy volunteered to take their photo at the trailhead -- that polaroid camera was just plain retro and cool. Awesome to see non-digital photography is sometimes back in vogue. Happy trails! |
