Close to home 52WAV peak...barebooted from trailhead across the bridge, took a left on the plowed road instead of climbing the bank to the snow machine trail..in a short distance at the power lines, took a right onto the snow machine trail (signs are there); go left of course here; continued to the bridge over the canal and a sharp right through the woods to Hogan Road (snow machine had been on it); made it to the actual trail sign near the powerhouse and switched to snow shoes; crusty snow but stable more or less until up to the upper road where a very old snow shoe trench was visible but crusty break through snow with powder underneath; higher up the snow depth was greater and some spots hip deep! Once at the ledges, there was a nice track with a few inches of powder all the way to the Centennial jct...had to crawl in a few places to bust through the crust and deep snow approaching the ledges...nice views, higher summits looked to be in an ice cloud most of day.. |
