Comments
Comments: Lost Pond Trail is very well packed. I started the hike with micro spikes. Going up the first steep section to the first view point was packed down by a few people. After that I switched to snowshoes and broke trail all the way to the top. The snow is really granular and hard to get a grip on especially on the steep sections. Poles were a must. It had the feeling of spring snow in some places, especially with it being a warm day (upper twenties and sunny). The second steep section was easier because the crusty layer left from the sleet last week was more stable. Going down was a little treacherous but doable with side stepping and controlled butt sliding. I probably wouldn’t do this hike in these conditions again.
