| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in the lot at the beginning of Sawyer River Road, very well plowed, and lots of room for parking. I arrived at 6:20am, my hiking partner was already there, and two other vehicles. Just after us, two others joining us arrived, and then one more car. We started just before 7am, and upon return just after 1pm, there were a few other cars but lot was not full. |

Road was packed, so we started in spikes and trail crampons, and carried our snow shoes. We were expecting to put them on, but ended up staying in spikes/trail crampons all day. Trail was well packed, and some sections a little soft on top, but no post holing, and we were not chopping up the trail. If we needed to step off the trail, absolutely would have needed to put our shoes on. On our decent, we passed about 6 others heading up. I think about 3 were in spikes, and 3 in shoes. There was a short section, maybe a mile, that was a lot softer on the way down, and now starting to get chopped up a bit. With the new snow, and with the trail traffic today (even though not a lot of traffic), I would recommend snow shoes. |
