Went up on Valentine’s Day, monorail was soft but stable. Either side of the trail had very deep snow, waist deep when I stepped off. Post holes on outer edges of the trail. Wore crampons the whole way up, spikes would’ve been adequate but I was still sliding around at points, snowshoes would be enough. Pretty steep after the first 2 or so miles. Very windy and cold above treeline with low vis. Trail from hut to summit was followable but wind scoured and some parts were very faint. Cairns kept us on track. Carried an axe above treeline mostly in case the wind knocked me down, wouldn’t say it’s required. |
