Comments
Comments: I left Greeley Ponds Trail just before the Scenic Area boundary and bushwhacked uphill in the direction of Kancamagus Pass; I crossed a small stream and then came across a fully-maintained ski glade, around 40 feet wide, which I followed from 2300 to 3000ft. Once I reached the col I ascended the northern ridge of Northwest Kancamagus; the snowshoeing was very slow due to unconsolidated powder (I measured a depth of 30 inches). The woods were moderately open in most places, but I had to zig-zag across the slope to find a good line.

From the summit I moved on to the real objective, which was a vantage point with a straight-ahead view of East Osceola’s 1892 slide. The K2 cliff seemed too ambitious for today, so I poked around my return route and found a very nice opening in the forest, at 3450ft. From here I could see the full extent of the slide, as well as a nice vista towards Franconia Ridge. I returned to the highway via the approach route and decided this was one of the more memorable bushwhacks of the season.
