Comments
Comments: Beautiful winter morning hike.

Decide to bag the easiest of the Winter 4000 footers today. Had to walk a little bit from our car to the trailhead because of the skiers' cars.

Strapped on snowshoes for the ascent. The trail is well packed out and is pretty wide especially in the lower part. Passed several hikers on the way up. The woods kept getting much snowier the higher we went up. Cool peeks up to Tecumseh's prominent white summit across the Tecumseh Brook Ravine. At the fork where the two trails (Mt. Tecumseh and Sosman) split to climb the summits two different ways, we took the right branch (Mt. Tecumseh Trail.) It was narrowly but well packed until the final steep climb to the summit where the tracks ended except for one set of postholing footprints. It looks like hikers turned around due to the deep drifts of snow. We continued on, our snowshoes really helping here. This stretch was short, so don't turn around like many others! (By the time you are reading this, however, this stretch might be a lot better packed out.)

Views were excellent up top. My left snowshoe broke at the top, so we donned spikes for the way down. The trail was packed out enough that we didn't posthole. Unless a bunch more snow comes (which looks like soon), spikes will suit you just fine, especially if you follow Sosman Trail for the final summit stretch.

On the way down, saw a couple climbers skinning up on skis.
