Snowshoes are essential here at the moment -- they are required on the ski trail to keep it in good shape for skiers (a few folks swooshed down today while others were skinning up), and snow is still soft and loose on the hiking trails. Off-trail snow is deep.
The ski trail was well-packed all the way to the cabin. Old Path, New Path and the view spur hadn't seen much snowshoe traffic, and were also riddled with postholes, which I tried to smooth over. The drop off the ridge via New Path was somewhat treacherous due to the very steep grade and loose snow. I bailed into the woods several times as floating down in unbroken powder was easier than slip-sliding down the trail.
It was fairly cold on the summits but fortunately the forecasted winds never materialized. Bright sun and great views! |
