I was the second person/group to head up early in the morning. Pierce was a highway and I wore microspikes the whole time. I switched to snowshoes to summit Pierce as the final leg to the summit was totally obscured. I wore snowshoes the rest of the hike. The path between Pierce and Eisenhower was freshly trodden - I was curious who was in front of me, and based on their report, I think I was trailing JinzoBlazer. Wind had re-covered some sections on the way to Eisenhower, and the trail after Eisenhower appeared to be totally re-covered by drifts from what I could see (but I was going out & back so did not actually go beyond Eisenhower). Snowshoes were quite helpful on the descent from Pierce, where they made it much easier for me to step off the trail to let people by. Those in spikes or just boots were sinking in quite deep; one person sank up to their waist when they stepped off the trail for me to pass. Definitely suggest snowshoes at least to get to Eisenhower. |
