I was the first up the trail in the morning. There was a solid trench with just a few inches of snow in it. A beautiful sunny morning with all the trees clad in white. The bit of trail packing had me more tired than I would have liked, but I decided to head across the ridge to Galehead. There was just a trace of an old track underneath the fresh powder. When I could stay on it I was only sinking 8-12 inches. Other sections it was 12-24 inches. Tiring work solo, but overall it went as well as could be hoped. Gale River trail was nicely packed and made a great descent after bagging the peak. After all the easy hiking this winter it felt good to actually earn one! |
