Snowshoes 90% of the hike. Worn from beginning of flume slide trail, taken off at bottom of liberty spring.
Appeared as though the most recent hiker on flume slide had barebooted to bottom of steep part and then turned around, could also just be the snow covered everything up but that was my impression. I had tails on my snowshoes so the track I laid should be decent for a bit.
The steepest parts were challenging (mainly due to tired legs) but totally doable in a safe manner. Obviously focusing on weight-distribution is essential when ascending the steepest parts. Pulled out ice axe a few times but mainly used poles. Did not slide backwards more than a couple feet at any point.
Didn't encounter anyone until I was about 20% down from the peak of Liberty. Passed maybe 20 people on way down Liberty Spring. |
