Comments
Comments: A nice day to be out on the trails. Started from Lafayette Place and went up Lonesome Lake Trail. Snowshoes were the way to go as it was still loose and not fully consolidated. Made it to the lake in reasonable time. Some hikers were trying to cross the lake but turned back as the slush was coming up to boot level. At this point it was a bluebird day with great views. From the lake onward, we broke trail up the rest of Lonesome Lake trail to Kinsman Ridge trail. It looks like they got roughly 6-8". Drifts (especially on Kinsman Ridge) were knee to waist high at points. Continued breaking trail up Kinsman Ridge trail until the last tenth of a mile or so when a couple of groups caught up to us and were kind enough to finish it up. As we made our way up, the clouds came in with some nice fresh snowfall. Summit was socked in but had fun checking out the tower (switched to my Hillsounds for the stairs) and watching the skiers disembark the chairlift. On the way down, we chose Hi-Cannon trail as someone had broken it out (was still fresh in the morning). Clouds parted briefly affording us nice views of Lafayette and the ridge. Otherwise continued with flurries for the rest of the day. Stuck with snowshoes for the descent although the snow was starting to firm up enough that spikes were probably sufficient at the lower elevations. Parking lot was still mostly full when we got back in the afternoon.
