Comments: Ground Conditions: After reading a report earlier this week, we decided to have a go at Garfield knowing it wasn't perfectly broken out. With only a few folks ahead of us, Katie and I did the best we could with Snowshoes to pack it down some more. Stepping off trail to give people space was doable with the snowshoes, but still one could sink in a ways by stepping off of the trail. I posted a few pictures of the conditions on the website for anyone trying to get a sense. It was a little perplexing seeing so many pairs of snowshoes carried above 4,000 feet given the conditions. On the way down, the trail conditions varied quite a bit as we passed groups coming up wearing mixed traction.
