The snow was well packed by snowshoers before, but snowshoes are still necessary. I saw a mix of snowshoes and micro spikes, but after talking to a few folks in micro spikes, we concluded micro spikes are still sinking in some making it a tough hike. Stick to snowshoes if you have them until the trail gets a little more packed down. The steep uphills (which were also steep downhills) were difficult in snowshoes, but doable. On the way down, we did a fair amount of butt sledding. We saw plenty of other butt sled marks from other hikers too. Trail is well packed the entire way and between North and Middle Tripyramid, but no recent tracks to South Tripyramid were observed. |
