 | Comments: |
Started from parking lot in snowshoes because I anticipated deeper snow at the summit of Straightback. All other hikers had on microspikes and they were not having any problem, trail was well packed. Probably 6 packed inches of new snow along Brook Trail up to west side of Mt. Major. Snow depth increased along Belknap Range trail heading over to Straightback - 8 to 12 inches on top of the old snow. I was only second one heading over to Straightback, person before me wore snowshoes so I just followed their trail. The person before me went to Straightback (North Peak) and I broke trail to South Peak. It was simple trail breaking because new snow wasn't that deep. I don't think I made it to actual summit because I lost the blue paint on the trees and didn't want to lead anyone following my trail in the wrong direction. Must have been very close to actual summit. Great day to be out. |
