| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From Rt 16, drove 1.2 mi on Green Hill Rd to start of Iron Mt. Rd. Parking here in small lot for a few cars. Iron Mt. Rd was plowed for .3 mi, but was very lightly sanded and initially steep with icy spots. We made it up the short steep pitch with a 4WD and good snow tires. There's a small parking area (plowed?) up there and room to park a few cars along the road. |

| Comments: |
From vehicle, walked Iron Mt. Rd. approx 1.5 mi to obvious trail head. Road groomed a short distance for snomo travel, but had been snomoed all the way to the trail head. Trail had a nicely packed snowshoe track all the way to the summit with 1" of new snow. We did not notice any blazes on this trail.
Previous posts have well described the lack of signage on the far side of the second field. But we still got it wrong, since the second field was completely wind blown, covering any snowshoe tracks. Upon crossing the narrow band of trees, between the 2 fields, we took the obvious opening that soon led us to a wide, jeep-like road. After a short while we suspected this wasn't the trail, and returned to the field. We followed the edge of the field to a less obvious opening where we noticed the woven remains of duct tape on a small tree. From here the trail crosses a skidder road and quickly enters a definite trail corridor. |
