Comments
Comments: A chilly start in the shady parking lot and up Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail. No wind to really speak of though, so that made things much more manageable. Barebooted Ammo until it started to get steep, and switched to crampons. Spikes also seemed to work for many people. A number of folks hanging around Lakes hut enjoying the day -- what a great day it was. The Monroe Loop was also pretty well packed. A bit soft in places, but mostly firm. Crawford Path up to Washington was also firm, and we saw people using spikes, crampons, or snowshoes. Lots of people hanging out on top of Washington, too (feels odd to say that in late January).

When we headed off Washington and onto Gulfside things got really soft, and it was pretty postholed, but avoidable. It seemed the trail near the Cog was more firm, but we mostly stayed on Gulfside, so I can't confirm. Things remained soft as we headed down Jewell until we entered the trees on Jewell. Snowshoes recommended for the stretch from the summit of Washington until about halfway down Jewell. The lower portion of Jewell was nice and firm, and any traction would have likely worked.

A beautiful day to be out. It's not too often where the summit of Washington is significantly warmer than the parking lot.
