Comments
Comments: Overcast and snowing all day. 3" plus fresh powder snow on trail. Starts vertical almost immediately and after 100' put on micro-spikes because too slippery on the powder laying on packed snow. Almost seemed the extra snow on top of packed stopped the micro-spikes from really getting a bite at times. Really could have used crampons instead [or snowshoes!]. Left my ice axe in truck but really could have used it at times to make extra steps when spikes kept slipping. Some drifting in upper area before lookout. After lookout trail dropped down for a bit before before the last 400'ish feet to the summit. This is all alpine open windswept area. Temp in low single digits, cold enough to freeze my insulated water tube, snowing, windy and low visibility. Drifting snow caused loss of trail a couple times and ending up probing for the hardpack trail. Made the summit and the sky blackened up with more storm coming in so made the decision to hike down the ski trail beside the Tram building. Seemed safer with the storm.
