Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing at 2.2 miles was mostly frozen and definitely passable but the water crossing at 2.7 miles was surprisingly (to me!) running like a spring thaw and was knee deep everywhere that I could see (I am short, so it would have been knee deep for me!). I tried bushwhacking upstream but couldn’t find a passable spot so I headed back.

Comments
Comments: The first 1.9 miles, to the Passaconaway Cutoff junction, has a nice monorail formed by snowshoes, XC skis and boots. That section is glorious. After that, Oliverian Brook had one snowshoer somewhat recently, so the route was easy to follow but there was a good 4” crusty and powdery snow to break. The prior snowshoer made it across the 2.7 mile water crossing (see above) and seemed to follow the trail exactly, no bushwhacking. Was he or she super tall and therefore easily waded across, or did he or she bring a pole for vaulting? We may never know, LOL!! If not for the water crossing this would be an awesome and easy winter snowshoe adventure!! Fingers crossed things freeze up and it becomes passable!!
