Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost my black neck buff along jewel trail on ascent, couldn’t find it on descent - gone. Black tech wick base shirt- tied it to a rock at the junction of jewel and gulfside, to mark the turn for the way back - gone. Some one had dropped a new ice axe on jewel, planned on picking up on the descent to post - gone

Comments
Comments: The jewel trail had not recently seen many hikers, only one discernible set of snowshoes prints -a slog to break trail, some sections had at least a ft of snow, passed only one hiker, who may have turned around since he wasn’t seen again (not his ice axe). The path beyond the tree cover on Jewel had both consolidated snow, snow drifts and wind swept tundra. The path was difficult to follow until the junction to gulfside, hence the shirt tied to a cairn. Gulfside tr had seen more activity so no issues there. The climb to the summit dome was a mixture of bare rocks and drifts (only section where micro could be wore- otherwise snowshoes all the way). Came across at least 5 hikers near the summit that had ascented via other trails, kudos to the man that did caps ridge. Three were going down jewel, which was good to hear. The return trip was fast and the path was left in great shape with the additional snowshoe hikers (they also followed our bushwhack to avoid the initial river crossing)
Cold but a windless day with blue skies. Jefferson was the last of the presis for the winter 48!
