Comments
Comments: Lovely day up to Paugus southern ledges. Not very windy on top, a few gusts but nothing sustained, which was welcome given the forecast. Views all the way to Mt Ascutney in VT, Monadnock, and maybe Watatic, not sure some larger looking hills in that area I couldnt ID. Picked out Gunstock, Kearsarge, Cardigan, Temple and the Pack Monadnocks. Had ledges and entire day all to myself, only saw one XC skier or Gordon path heading to car from Ferncroft parking lot.

Trails were in great shape. Microspikes from car to top. Never more than a couple inches of new snow blown in the trail bed. Put on snowshoes to explore the ledges and kept them on until junction with Cabin and Lawrence. Wasn't necessary to descend, but it was nice to get the weight off my back for a bit. Barebooted from Lawrence down Kelley Trail and back to the car. Still minimal loose snow and it was nice to have a quieter descent.

One area of trail on Lawrence just below the switchbacks start on the ascent is pretty chewed up from moose activity. At least one seems to be using a section of Lawrence trail as home base. Saw a moose bed depression in the snow just off trail amoung the crisscrossing tracks.

Did not go to true summit as it was cold and windy and I was having a good day, and didnt need to get lost or start cursing the mountain.
