Comments: Route:
19 MB > Wildcat Ridge > and back.

19MB: well blazed in blue. Trail was a packed out super highway. Lovely trench set up. Today’s conditions were great for either snowshoes or spikes due to the freezing temps. Most people wore snowshoes. No post holes! Yea! This trail is on a gentle grade and great for novice hikers. Side note... lots of pee spots along trail sidelines. Leave No Trace encourages voids 200 feet off trail... Just sayin’. No big deal, I just like looking at white snow rather than urine colored. Kept singing Frank Zappa’s song “Watch out where the Huskies go/ Don’t you eat that yellow snow!”

Wildcat Ridge: this is the Appalachian Trail (AT) and is blazed in standard 2x6 white blazes. This trail was also a packed out super highway. This sucker is steep. I wonder what it looks like without snow. Is it still wicked steep? Never seen it without snow... The trail is surrounded by trees and protected from winds. To my knowledge (again, I have never been here without snow), there is no summit carin. There is a small, though nice, view from a lookout point marked with a sign that says “view.” No ice today.

Not that many people out today. Surprising given the clear skies. But, man, it was cold. Even by Maine standards.

Of interest, I’m walking from the parking lot with the kiddos to the trailhead proper to start our hike and I hear “Hey! Are you Remington34?” I turn around and see a fella that I saw enroute to Mt. Hale. Well, now. Huh. Small world. Such a pleasure to meet you officially, The Teal Goat. Great skirt!! Such fun meeting other hikers of whom I read about on this forum! I hope your hike across the ridge went well! I look forward to your future postings. Thanks for the fun tip on Hale and the advice on us glasses wearers, the cold, and avoiding “glass fog.”

The two young Mainers knocked another peak off the list!
