A couple big trees across the Signal ridge trail, snowshoeing around them is not a problem. One is a huge spruce located near the charred remains of the tree that was on fire a few years ago. Hopefully come late spring, the trail maintainers can get help with these blowdowns. |

A frigid but beautiful day for a long snowshoe trek to Carrigain. The road is broken out by snowmobiles. You could bareboot it. We chose to wear the snowshoes instead of carrying them from the car and back.
After about the first mile of Signal ridge, snowshoes are the only appropriate footwear. Trail was beautifully broken out but wearing the shoes definitely helps improve the track. There were a few postholes that I hope the few of us out there probably helped fill in as we were all wearing snowshoes except one guy who was with 2 mates wearing snowshoes. Deeper drifts up by the open section shortly before the summit. Our tracks were being filled in minutes after walking across by the strong winds. Snowshoes are the only option here IMO. Winter has at last arrived, no bugs, less people and loads of powder :) |
