Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I arrived at the trailhead at 6:15am and the awesome NH DOT folks were still working on plowing the overnight accumulation, so I could not park at Crawford Depot, but the turnaround down by the start if Webster Jackson was plowed, so I parked there. When I got back at 10:45 the Crawford lot was plowed and had at least 2 dozen cars.

Comments
Comments: Snowshoes all the way. There is a good base under the new snow from last night. It was 2-4” powder over fantastic solid trail until about 3500’ and then it’s about 4-6” powder with drifts in the few open areas. I was the first one out this morning (other than what appeared to be a coyote, who headed for Tom first, LOL!!). I left a beautifully tramped snowshoe trail up Avalon to Field and then across to Tom, but that’s where I saw the first of many non-snowshoers. Coming down A-Z was a lot of dodging postholes (sad face). Coming back down Avalon Trail from the A-Z junction was even more postholes and the trail looked rototilled. Hopefully the snowshoers will outnumber the nonsnowshoers and the beautiful trail packing will resume!!
I did not see the pine marten on Field, and there weren’t any animal tracks up there, in the fresh snow. Maybe he/she is a late riser??!! Happy trails, stay safe and warm!!!
