| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Main lot is plowed and had 3 or 4 cars when we got there around 10 AM. Secondary lot is not plowed, but only has about 8" of snow in it - OK for 4WD. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
One fairly dicey stream crossing coming down Hi-Cannon, but fortunately there was just enough ice on the rocks that we were able to get a good grip with spikes. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One big blowdown just west of where you initially come to the lake. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Met one dog (thankfully leashed) that is apparently still learning his trail manners. |

| Lost and Found: |
One fairly nice looking hiking pole leaning against the sign at the intersection of Dodge Cutoff and Hi-Cannon. |

| Comments: |
Lonesome Lake trail up was well packed, fine in spikes. We opted to take the trail clockwise around the lake rather than across as it was blowing pretty hard. It was a tossup whether to switch to snowshoes, so we didn't which was a mistake. No postholing, but it's a really skinny packed track. We switched to snowshoes below the hut, and they were much better for the west side of the lake, where it looked like there must have been a number of booters who ended up with wet feet. We kept snowshoes on the pack Dodge Cutoff, which was fairly powdery, and kept them on as we headed down Hi-Cannon. That was bad - sorry about the butt-sliding tracks, not intentional. We went back to spikes for the remainder of Hi-Cannon down, which worked reasonably well and the firm packed track. |
