Beautiful conditions for hiking. We bare booted on Lincoln Woods Trail then switched to microspikes at the junction. The Osseo is well packed down. The ladders were challenging but not icy. We used microspikes going up but, in hindsight, we wished we'd switched to crampons going up the ladders. The stretch between the ladders & junction of Flume Slide had softer snow but still packed well enough to continue in microspikes. Snowshoes went along for the ride. Franconia Ridge trail was drifted over but so narrow that we continued in micros. We switched to crampons to descend the ladders and left them on until reaching Lincoln Woods trail. Saw only 3 backpackers all day. |
