Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Second quarter of trail in dire need of brushing. If you're the trail maintainer, I'd be happy to chip in a few hours (e-mail contact below).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I would not recommend this route for most dogs - some tricky scrambles, lots of sharp rock, minimal water, minimal shade.
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies, but generally minimal.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A pair of black gloves was hanging in a tree below the potholes, but didn't notice if they were still there on descent.

Comments
Comments: Up to treeline, the trail alternated from dry to minor mud. Above treeline, trail and all ledges were dry.

For descent, I headed down the Jefferson Loop, hopped on Gulfside south briefly, then took The Cornice back to the Caps Ridge Trail - avoids the trap rock section of the Caps Ridge Trail with better footing, though a fraction of a mile longer. Takes one through the lawn area, which is one of my favorite in the Presis.
