| Comments: |
Travelled up Manning from Alexandria AMC lodge parking lot with bare boots. Put in snowshoes about a mile and half in. Lots of post hole pits, please use snowshoes! Higher up, all slab rock and ledge is snow covered. Blazes on rocks are covered. Lost main upper Manning trail in the short trees due to people making new trails everywhere. People were walking in circles, do don’t blindly follow snowshoe tracks. Be careful to watch for blazes and stacked rocks to find your way. The stacked rocks are visible above the snow. Drifts on trail were firm. All rocks covered including upper ledge granite. On summit, firetower covered with rime ice, as was summit rock. Winds were annoying so we just tapped the summit and left. On way down, winds were dead at old caretakers cabin on Clark. We headed down Clark cutoff with snowshoes and didn’t take them off until we hit lower manning. We then hiked out on fast conditions to AMC lodge. There was no ice anywhere on the trails we hiked today, just packed snow. |
