Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking available today at Lincoln Woods trailhead parking area - USFS fee area. Bathrooms open.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues. One culvert crossing on LW Trail, no crossings on Osseo Trail -- there were about 3 open drainages, but they were all very easily crossed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On Osseo Trail: yellow blazing was noted - perhaps it could be a little more generous in a few areas. Signage seemed okay, though I did not notice a FRT/Osseo Trail sign at the intersection with the Flume Slide Trail -- it might be there, though, and I just missed it. Osseo Trail could use some brushing in the softwoods, from below the ladders to its upper end. Several blowdowns on Osseo Trail, though none were an impediment to travel. A couple could be removed with a small folding saw, and a couple more with a 3 foot bowsaw.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw no dogs on this route today.
Bugs
Bugs: None noted.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: NA

Comments
Comments: Trail was well packed snow, with hardly any ice anywhere. I was able to bareboot until the base of the ladders. I put on microspikes there, and wore them to the summit and much of the way back down. The ladders (steep staircases) were semi-exposed, with packed snow -- I did not notice any ice. Going up the ladders was relatively straightforward, but I found the descent to be slow and awkward. The last few hundred feet to the summit of Flume was mostly snowy, rather than icy, but as Steve Smith notes, "caution is needed on the final exposed approach along summit ledges." I saw four other hikers on this route today; three of those also hiked to Mount Liberty.
