Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Good shape. Someone had mentioned an annoying blowdown that was a little too low to duck under but a little high for short people to step over. But there is now a herd path around it. Most of the trail (all of Lonesome Lake trail) is nicely packed. But KRT is no joke! Crampons would not be overkill! We only had spikes and managed, but the few inches of new snow on top of the consolidated snow made it hard for the spikes to dig in and we had several instances of sliding backward a little. Snowshoes would have been useless. We were the first to go up that day, but by now it's probably better with more foot traffic, unless it snowed again. There is one scary section where the trail slants to the left and if you slip, you fall down a steep cliff. We made it OK but were very careful.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My friend and I each had a dog (springer spaniel and golden doodle) and they did fine. Actually, they seemed to find it easier than we did! Those built in microspikes on their paws come in handy!
Bugs
Bugs: Lol!

Comments
Comments: On the way back down we decided to go around Lonesome Lake and visit the hut, even though it was closed, since my friend had never seen it. Then we thought we'd walk across the lake to get back. We got about a third of the way over and then the previous footprints stopped! I'm not daring enough to be the first to test the ice so we turned around and went around the lake instead.
This was an absolutely beautiful hike with a Narnia-like feel!
