The West Ridge trail is packed like a sidewalk -- it's an easy and fast highway to or from the summit. We saw lots of other hikers on that trail. We ascended via the South Ridge trail and Clark Trail, which were much less trafficked and a little more powdery, but still easy to follow the trail and find our way. There are a few parts of the South Ridge that are a little slippery or narrow. The final ascent up Clark is very steep and icy -- I wouldn't want to go down that way. All in all, going up South Ridge was a great call for the solitude and wild beauty it provided, but I am glad we then bombed down the West Ridge trail back to the car.
Summit is mostly bare granite with various snowy patches, and was rather windy. We didn't linger.
Microspikes the whole way. |
