This entire route has light and dry snow. Zealand Road has 2-3" of top cover - there is a decent track up to the Hale Brook TH and less so to Zealand TH. Zealand Trail is covered though larger rocks and roots are still visible in the first mile. Twinway has maybe 4-5" on top of a stable base. I bare booted the road and put snowshoes on at Zealand TH - those stayed on until I returned to the road. There was a good snowshoe track on Twinway that had one set of bare boot tracks and a bit of fill on top. Myself and the only four others I saw today were all wearing snowshoes so there should be a good snowshoe track again - however the snow is so soft and dry that it really isn't packing well. Snowshoes are the best answer here - the spikes went for a ride and not once did I think about putting them on.
Nice day for this hike: cool and little breezy but protected by the trees. Views were crisp from Zeacliff in the afternoon. Good to run into Hiker Ed (thanks again!).
