After seeing Ken's report yesterday, I had to go here. The champney falls trail is all packed down with a little ice. Above tree line, there are some patches of ice. Microspikes were sufficient for this portion of the hike. The portion of middle sister trail from middle sister to chocoroua and the champney falls cutoff trail arent completely broken out except for a little postholing. Snow shoes could be used on these trails. The summit of chocorua was very windy, so I ended up spending most of my time at middle sister. It has a similar view with less exposure. There was never any need for crampons. |
