Comments
Comments: A few people had been up firescrew before us, although not today. Tracks were relatively easy to follow, but the tracks meandered around the top a bit and went off-trail very often. Someone with GPS should set the correct trail. Too cold for us to get our phones out today. We followed the tracks and they always led back to the trail. More tracks joined us on firescrew from the Mowglis trail and then the tracks stayed on-trail. Trail was consistently 3-4" of unpacked powder from the Manning split to the top of Cardigan. Very little, very avoidable ice on the upper ledges. We did not use snowshoes, and saw no one else wearing them. They may have been a bit helpful scrambling up the steeps to the top of Firescrew, but we barebooted it just fine. No need for spikes today, as it was all loose powder. The Clark trail down was well packed out. No spikes or snowshoes needed.
