Kahtoolas car to car. HS trail crampon pros went for a training hike. Snowshoes didn't make it into car. Set tracks in fresh powder all day. Very limited ice. What was "found" was hard and slippery. Ledges were manageable. Took a moment where the old wood blocks used to be. Exposed rock was hard to get traction. A few "go for it" moments. Really appreciated some well located root stubs in the "holy crap" spots below the lookout before Whiteface summit. Low lying clouds provided great views all day. Sporadic bare ground and exposed rocks below Tom Wiggin intersection with Dicey Mill. One of a few hikes along the way without any human or animal contact. Shared the trail with a variety of wildlife footprints. |
