Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Within a mile from the trailhead, there are a few water crossings. The first, Thompson Brook, might get you thinking and strategizing - and possibly walking up and down, along the brook, looking for an easier crossing. If it were summer, it would only be a hop or two, but, yesterday, many of the rocks that were exposed are deceptively covered with a thin sheet of ice. So just be careful and always keep one foot firm. Trekking poles can really be useful. AND if you’re uncertain and rather not make this first crossing, there is a snow-mobile bridge before that first crossing where you cross and make your way back up to the trail.

Comments
Comments: I hiked the trail barefooted; something that is rare for me, in winter. I would’ve worn my microspikes, but gave them to my son, since he didn’t have any (and his boots had horribly slick soles). About midway up, there are large patches of ice, but with microspikes or just well-treaded boots, you can walk around them. It was helpful that I had my trekking poles.

I gotta say, I was really surprised by what little snow I found up there (particularly in that first half of the hike!).
