Comments
Comments: A fine day in the forest for First Day! Gorgeous cobalt blue skies, warm temps and great company made the day even better. Lots of happy trampers out today enjoying themselves. Saw several familiar faces We bare booted/rock spiked to just past the last crossing on flume side trail. Then we used good spikes til Little Haystack. Lots and lots of bulbous blue ice, actual mountaineering crampons can (and probably should) absolutely be utilized on Flume Slide Trail in winter. Several bypasses used to get up. From there, trail to the junction of liberty springs is in zoom zoom delightful shape.

From Liberty Springs Junction to treeline on Franconia Ridge, it was not nearly as nice but still moderate zoom shape. Just hasn't seen as much traffic. From treeline to the summit of Lafayette a combo of rock spike / bare boot was used. We hit the last bubble of hikers and let them go around Truman. Had the summits virtually to ourselves. Amazingly, we did see people on the ridge hiking without packs in winter. Just amazing. Good spikes from the summit of Lafayette to just past Agony Ridge, and then rock spikes/bare boot out. No one had used the cutoff to the parking lot so I broke that out.
