Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossings were extremely challenging. Water levels are high and running fast. There's a lot of slushy, collapsing ice on rocks. The first crossing was relatively easy, the second was more challenging but we were able to follow the previous day's hikers' footprints, the final crossing was not possible at the usual crossing point. We ended up backtracking about 200' on the trail, bushwhacking to the stream & finding a place to cross. We then bushwhacked to the trail, which placed us very close to the Brutus BW.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trials are in great shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Eva was a trooper. She had a great time but was nervous with water crossings. Hiking dogs should be experienced.

Comments
Comments: The trails are in great shape; mostly hard packed or trace of snow over a solid base. We bare booted from the car to about 1/4 of the Lincoln Brook Trail then switched to light traction due to ice on the trail. We kept the light traction on until the finish. Water crossings were very challenging and we lost over an hour figuring out how to manage the crossings (see Water Crossing notes above). There is very little snow on the trails until you get close to the summit, then there were drifts up to 6" over a solid base. A real shout out to Donna, Joyce & Dick accompanying me and finding water crossings so that I was able to grid out December & successfully summit my 574th/576 peak.
